Hey all !!

It's been 7 months ago since I had my lung transplant and it is time for me to start doing some work on them muscles. Been doing stretching and working with weights right after I was allowed to go home (in Januari 2008 ) with my physiotherapist here in my living room. Around march I started to walk the dog around the pond in front of our house and that was the start of the real 'deal".
My good friend Mark Gleavie from Manchester was doing a lot for the English Cystic Fibroses funds by walking (Jogging) the Great Manchester run. He made a lot of $$ for the UK CF Trust. The Bupa Great Manchester Run is one of the world's fastest growing running events and Britain's premier 10k. I am so proud on Mark by doing this that I realy want to ad my part to this great trust.
But as most of you know I haven't walked (not to mention run...) 10 km for years (25 years ? ? ) and specailly the last 6 or 7 years when notting was posible anymore not even a few meters. So there will be a lot to do to make this a good result.

I WANT TO RUN THE 10 K IN 2009 !!

On July 2008 I started at the local gym with bicycling (10 to 15 minutes), walking (on a treadmill 6.5 km a hour for 15 minutes at this moment), some weight lifting ( about 10 different exercises machines) and Belly muscle exercises for 15 minutes. This is three times a week.

Yesterday (10 aug) i did my first out door walk/run. Did 2.5 Km (a small block around the house) in about 30 minutes. In that time I did 7 times 1.2 minutes running and for rest I walked (+/- 6 km a hour). It feld good!

I found a website that can keep track of my trainging walks I did.

You can find it on: http://www.afstandmeten.nl/index.php?id=135059
More info about the GMR on: http://gmr.realbuzz.com/

I'll keep ya ll posted !!

JeePee ~
It is so wonderful to hear about you actually running, even for a short distance.  That, in itself, is a GRAND accomplishment after such a major, major surgery.  A man doesn't know what he may have to endure before meeting his maker.  I see that you have a wonderful dedication to the task at hand.  It will never be easy while engaging in the workouts, but the expected results will make it all worth while.  I know you can run that 10K run.  Merely finishing the race will make you a true CHAMPION.  The last time I saw you I had to almost cry.  I know how it is to be dibilitated from a disease and injury.  Your faith and determination is second to no one.  Please, let me know if I can help you on this side of the Atlantic.  My thoughts and prayers are with you, my friend.  I hope you can make it to the BBQ this fall.  It will be wonderful to see you walking a long distance without stopping for air.  Take care!         Respectfully ~             Don Wright
